| Chaparral Gear is the retail store for Chaparral Ice in Austin, Texas. Chaparral Ice opened in September 1996 as a free-standing single-sheet arena. In 2004, Chaparral Ice took over management of the ice rink at Northcross Mall. A second sheet was added to the main facility in 2007. In 2008 a brand new facility was opened at Northcross Mall to replace the original rink which was in operation for 33 years. Chaparral Ice is THE place in Austin to learn the sport of figure skating and ice hockey. Classes are offered in both sports at the original I35 location and at the Northcross Mall location.
